What to know about free WP sites:
Domains need to be connected manually. If you buy from a hoster, this step is usually done for you automatically.
SSL certificates can be acquired for free. These certificates last for only 90 days, after which they have to be renewed manually. (takes 3 clicks) So basically, you renew your certificates for free for as long as you wish. If you want to have it easier, you could purchase an SSL for a period of a year or longer and then use that on your site. (cost around $12/year)
Support by the host does not exist. If you run into problems with your site, you will have to figure out the issues yourself. That's why it's necessary to keep regular backups of your site. See the list of recommendations for plugins that I can recommend.
Accounts can have up to 3 websites for free. After you're signed up for free hosting, you can create up to 3 fully-featured WordPress websites without paying anything. The limit for all your 3 accounts is 5GB. Therefore, a free website won't be the right choice if you want to build a space-heavy site.
